Please be advised that the Australian Government’s Department of Agriculture and the New Zealand Governments Ministry of Primary Industries have issued revised measures regarding fumigation against the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug. (Effective date of September 1, 2018, running through to April 30, 2019)
The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) is not found in Australia and needs to be kept out. It could severely impact Australian agricultural industries. Juveniles and adults BSMB feed on, and can severely damage, fruit and vegetable crops. Adult BMSB can also be a nuisance, entering vehicles, homes and factories for shelter over winter.
BMSB can arrive in Australia on cargo and in containers shipped between September and April. This coincides with late autumn and winter in the Northern Hemisphere.
If you import/export seafreight consignments from or through countries targeted by DAWR: USA, Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Georgia and Japan then there is a need to ensure your consignment is fumigated OFFSHORE within 96 hours of loading on the vessel. (Target high risk goods requiring mandatory treatment offshore that arrive untreated will be directed for export or destruction unless exceptional circumstances are granted)
Whilst fumigation is the responsibility of cargo interests we at JTM CARGO are working closely with relevant Government Departments/Overseas Partners/Agents to ensure compliance is met and avoid/minimize possible delays at origin and/or destination.
